Position Overview

The Dispensary Support (Fixed-Term) role at Brackenfell Corner is designed for learners who are preparing to enter the pharmaceutical field as Basic Pharmacist Assistants.

This opportunity forms part of a structured learnership programme that combines practical in-store experience with formal training, leading to registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Successful candidates will work under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist while gaining hands-on exposure to real pharmacy operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances
  • Support the compounding, preparation, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines under supervision
  • Assist with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves
  • Learn and apply correct prescription interpretation procedures under pharmacist supervision
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
  • Assist in stock control, including expiry date monitoring and organisation
  • Report low stock, expired stock, and discrepancies to the Dispensary Manager
  • Support patient service functions including call centre and script follow-ups
  • Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisation processes
  • Receive and process dispensary stock according to SOP guidelines
  • Maintain compliance with SAPC regulations and company policies

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric (Pure Mathematics 50%, Life Sciences and/or Physical Science preferred)
  • Minimum average of 50% in relevant subjects
  • Successful completion of a proficiency test for SAPC learner registration eligibility
  • South African citizen
  • Clear credit and criminal record (MIE checks required)

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must be willing to work retail pharmacy hours
  • Must comply with SAPC registration requirements upon qualification
  • Must undergo MIE screening (credit and criminal clearance required)
  • Employment is fixed-term until qualification as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant
