About the IT Manager Role

The IT Manager will be responsible for overseeing IT infrastructure, LIMS systems, integrations, user support, cybersecurity, and IT team leadership. The role requires a strong technical background combined with leadership and problem-solving ability in a regulated operational environment.

This is a hands-on management role, including on-call support when required.

Key Responsibilities

LIMS & Systems Administration

  • Act as primary administrator for LIMS systems
  • Configure workflows, permissions, and master data
  • Support laboratory users with system issues
  • Manage system security roles and access controls

IT Infrastructure & Support

  • Maintain desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and networks
  • Install and configure operating systems and applications
  • Provide onsite, remote, and telephonic support
  • Maintain IT troubleshooting documentation

Systems Integration

  • Manage interfaces between LIMS and laboratory instruments
  • Troubleshoot connectivity and integration issues
  • Collaborate with vendors on upgrades and system improvements

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain data integrity across systems
  • Generate operational and compliance reports
  • Manage IT asset registers and software licensing

Training & Documentation

  • Train users on LIMS and IT systems
  • Develop SOPs and technical guides
  • Support onboarding and IT awareness training

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead system upgrades and IT projects
  • Identify automation and efficiency opportunities
  • Support workflow optimisation initiatives

Compliance & Leadership

  • Ensure IT systems meet security and compliance standards
  • Support audits and regulatory requirements
  • Manage and mentor IT support staff
  • Enforce data security and confidentiality policies

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant IT qualification (required)

Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in:
    • IT Support
    • Systems Administration
    • IT Management

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with:
    • LIMS systems
    • ERP / payroll systems (e.g. Pastel, Sage Pastel Payroll, PaySpace)
  • Windows environment administration
  • Networking and hardware support
  • System integrations and troubleshooting
  • IT security and access management

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and mentoring ability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments
  • Comfortable with on-call support duties
