About the Role

The Shop Assistant role is focused on delivering an engaging and personalised customer experience while supporting daily store operations. You will be responsible for assisting customers, maintaining stock levels, supporting sales targets, and ensuring the store remains visually appealing and well-organised.

This role requires someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a target-driven retail environment.


Key Responsibilities of a Shop Assistant

Customer Experience & Sales Support

  • Create a welcoming, inspirational, and personalised shopping experience
  • Greet customers and assist them with product selection
  • Explain promotions, discounts, and loyalty card benefits
  • Support customers with product information, especially in beauty and skincare ranges
  • Promote add-on sales and link-selling opportunities to increase basket size

Stock Control & Merchandising

  • Assist with stock replenishment and ensure shelves are fully stocked
  • Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) principles for stock rotation
  • Support stock counts, cycle counts, and stock take processes
  • Report low stock levels or out-of-stock items to the Store Supervisor
  • Maintain clean, hygienic, and organised stockrooms and sales floors

Store Operations & Standards

  • Maintain visual merchandising standards and store presentation
  • Ensure testers, shelves, and displays are clean and well-maintained
  • Follow all store policies including POS, cash handling, and banking procedures
  • Assist in maintaining daily housekeeping standards (clean floors, dust-free shelves)

Promotions & Sales Execution

  • Implement monthly promotional campaigns and in-store marketing displays
  • Assist with signage placement such as posters, shelf talkers, and promotional stands
  • Support marketing activities including in-store promotions and special events
  • Actively contribute to achieving daily and monthly sales targets

Minimum Requirements – Shop Assistant

Education:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate (essential)

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year retail experience (advantageous)
  • Experience in beauty, skincare, or fragrance retail (advantageous)
  • Experience with POS systems and Microsoft Office (emails, Excel) (advantageous)
