Position Overview

Crawford International Fourways Preparatory is seeking an Afrikaans Specialist and Drama Teacher on a 6-month contract.

This role combines language teaching and creative arts (Drama), focusing on developing learners’ communication skills, creativity, confidence, and academic growth in a modern, inquiry-based learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

Academic Delivery (Teaching & Learning)

  • Teach Afrikaans and Drama across the Intersen Phase
  • Deliver engaging, future-focused lessons aligned with Crawford curriculum standards
  • Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods
  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons to meet learner needs
  • Support students’ academic, emotional, and creative development

Assessment & Reporting

  • Assess and track learner progress continuously
  • Maintain accurate academic records and mark books
  • Use data-driven insights to support learner improvement
  • Contribute to formal assessments, moderation, and reporting systems (e.g. STASY)
  • Participate in cluster marking and standardisation processes

Student Development & Behaviour Management

  • Manage classroom behaviour through clear rules and expectations
  • Support student wellbeing through mentorship and guidance
  • Identify learners with barriers to learning and escalate support
  • Communicate effectively with parents and support teams

School Brand & Extra Activities

  • Act as a Crawford International brand ambassador
  • Support school events, extra-murals, and performances
  • Promote school ethos and values internally and externally
  • Contribute to school marketing, events, and open days

Administration & Operations

  • Ensure lesson planning aligns with timetable requirements
  • Assist with school events, excursions, and planning logistics
  • Maintain classroom learning environment standards
  • Support administrative duties as required

Health & Safety

  • Supervise learners in classrooms and activity areas
  • Report and manage hazards or safety risks
  • Provide basic first aid support when required
  • Promote student awareness of safety and wellbeing

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 6) + PGCE or B.Ed (Intermediate/Intersen/Foundation Phase)
  • Valid SACE registration
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • 3–5 years teaching experience
  • 1-year teaching internship (preferred, at principal’s discretion)
  • IB PYP training (advantageous)
  • Willingness to teach as a generalist educator
