Channel Representative Job Overview

The Channel Representative is responsible for managing customer relationships, supporting route optimisation, and improving driver efficiency within the baking distribution network.

This role works closely with drivers, van assistants, and customers to ensure efficient product delivery and increased market share.


Key Responsibilities

Product Distribution & Route Optimisation

  • Ensure drivers follow mapped and optimised delivery routes
  • Plot all customers on the GPS system
  • Improve truck utilisation and delivery efficiency

Sales Monitoring & Returns Management

  • Monitor daily orders and sales performance
  • Track product returns and implement improvement plans
  • Ensure driver teams meet sales targets

Customer Data Management

  • Capture and maintain accurate customer details
  • Ensure account classifications are correctly loaded

Driver Training & Performance Management

  • Support, train, discipline, and lead driver and van assistant teams
  • Conduct route rides to evaluate customer service and performance
  • Identify and address training gaps

Pricing & Market Intelligence

  • Conduct weekly price surveys
  • Monitor recommended selling prices (RSPs)
  • Gather and share competitor and trade intelligence

Customer Relationship Management

  • Increase sales volume and market share
  • Handle customer complaints and queries
  • Ensure merchandising meets company standards
  • Develop new business strategies with sales teams

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Matric (Grade 12)

Licences

  • Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence with PDP
  • Own reliable vehicle

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a sales role
  • Driver-salesman experience is advantageous
