Channel Representative Job Overview
The Channel Representative will report to the Regional Sales Manager and will be responsible for addressing customers’ operational needs while driving sales growth and market share.
This role combines sales, route optimisation, customer service, and field team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Product Distribution & Route Optimisation
- Ensure driver teams follow mapped and optimised routes
- Plot all customer locations on the GPS system
- Improve truck utilisation and delivery efficiency
- Verify that invoices match loading lists before dispatch
Orders, Returns & Sales Monitoring
- Monitor customer orders and daily returns
- Develop action plans to reduce returns
- Submit daily sales figures from driver teams
- Ensure sales targets are achieved
Customer Data Management
- Capture and update customer details accurately
- Ensure correct account classification and allocation
Driver Coaching & Performance Management
- Train, support, and discipline driver and van assistant teams
- Conduct route rides to evaluate customer service
- Identify performance gaps and provide coaching
Pricing & Trade Intelligence
- Conduct weekly price surveys
- Monitor recommended selling prices (RSPs)
- Gather competitor and market intelligence
Customer Relationship Building
- Increase market share in general trade stores
- Develop strategies to win new business
- Handle customer complaints and queries
- Ensure merchandising standards are maintained
Minimum Requirements
Candidates should have:
- Matric / Grade 12
- Diploma or Degree in Sales or Marketing
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence with PDP
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in sales or FMCG distribution
