Job Description:
The General Worker in Maintenance is responsible for performing general work around the DAF unit area, feather area, sump area, and the entire abattoir. The role involves ensuring cleanliness, reporting equipment malfunctions, and assisting in maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean the DAF unit, feather press, sump pit, and feather area.
- Ensure equipment is properly washed, and report any damaged or broken machines to the shift controllers.
- Assist in inspecting broken shackles and yokes during start-ups.
- Ensure all machines function throughout production and report failures promptly.
- Assist in replacing plucker fingers during weekend maintenance.
- Maintain all valves, scrapers, screens, and pumps in good working condition.
- Ensure the sump pit room, feather area, and water sieve unit are clean and ready for start-up.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 Equivalent.
- Ability to work in warm areas of the abattoir with strong odors (feathers, blood).
- Good physical condition for performing physical work and standing for long periods.
- Willingness to work overtime, including shifts, weekends, and holidays when required.
Skills Required:
- Understanding of production procedures.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures (PPE).
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Team player.
