Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Bedfordview store is looking for a Dispensary Support to join the team. This role is designed for learners interested in completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. The course will equip learners with the knowledge to understand key pharmaceutical principles and dispensing practices, promoting quality on-the-job learning. The successful candidate will be employed in a Fixed Term position until they are registered with the SAPC as a learner basic assistant. Only once qualified will permanent employment be offered.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric or a Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics (50%), Life Science and/or Physical Science, with an average of at least 50%

Job Responsibilities

  • Complete the proficiency test and apply for registration with Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant
  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under a pharmacist’s supervision
  • Help with the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist with unpacking and merchandising stock, and cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves
  • Learn to interpret prescriptions and act responsibly according to South African Pharmaceutical Council guidelines
  • Assist in the picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, and monitor drug interactions
  • Ensure medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist
  • Help manage stock levels, including the cleanliness and organization of shelves, and track expiry dates
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments
  • Provide information to individuals to promote health
  • Assist with authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Report on low or out-of-stock items, and assist with stock receipt

Competencies

  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English and a second language
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, customer service focus, problem-solving, and conflict management
  • Team player with professional conduct, trustworthiness, and accountability
  • Good numerical and computer skills

Advantageous

  • Experience in retail FMCG, Dis-Chem front shop, and a good performance record
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, complementary medicine
  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting

Special Conditions of Employment
