Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity for a Security Guard to render a security service as per the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. This role ensures the protection of assets, property, and staff by identifying signs of criminal activities or disorder, and investigating disturbances, while adhering to relevant legislation and best practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
• Grade C accreditation with PSIRA
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the retail industry (shopping malls, warehouses, etc.)

Advantageous

• At least 1 year of specific previous experience in a similar role

Job Specification

• Conduct regular patrols to identify suspicious activities and prevent crime.
• Control access to the premises, ensuring only authorized individuals enter.
• Report signs of damage or unlawful entry to management and act accordingly.
• Be highly visible to discourage criminal activities, theft, damage, and injury.
• Ensure good customer relations with both internal and external customers.
• Maintain and complete all required registers and occurrence books.
• Perform access control, including searching staff, suppliers, and merchandise.
• Oversee refuse removal according to company standards.
• Protect business assets from theft, damage, or malicious behavior.
• Follow opening and closing procedures to ensure security measures are in place.
• Monitor alarms, video cameras, and operate emergency equipment when needed.
• Provide assistance during emergencies, including alerting first responders.
• Maintain safety during evacuations and ensure law and order.
• Provide security advice and safety warnings to staff and customers.
• Remain vigilant to detect and act on any security breaches.
• Respond quickly to crises and ensure proper documentation of incidents.
• Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity.
• Perform special duties as required (e.g., receiving phone calls, handling communications).

Competencies

• Knowledge of PSIRA regulations
• Fire emergency and health & safety training
• Proficient in English (read, write, speak)

Advantageous

• Proficiency in a third language

Special Conditions of Employment

• PSIRA registered, Grade C PSIRA accreditation
• South African citizen
• MIE, clear criminal and credit record
• Driver’s license and own reliable transport (PDP required if deployed as a driver)
