Opportunity Overview

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA), a proud member of the Coca-Cola Beverages Africa group, is inviting motivated and ambitious young individuals to apply for the Packaging Learnership program at the Lakeside manufacturing facility in the Eastern Cape. This structured 12-month program is designed to provide unemployed South African youth with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, technical skills, and an NQF Level 3 qualification in Food and Beverage Packaging.

This learnership program is ideal for individuals who are passionate about the manufacturing and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry and want to kick-start a meaningful career in one of the world’s most recognized beverage companies.

Key Purpose of the Learnership

The purpose of this learnership is to equip learners with theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the food and beverage packaging environment. Upon completion of the programme, learners will obtain a National Certificate in Food and Beverage Packaging (NQF Level 3), which can significantly improve their employability and career progression within the manufacturing industry.

The learnership is an entry-level opportunity targeting unemployed youth who meet the academic and demographic requirements outlined below.

Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas

During the learnership, participants will be exposed to a variety of on-the-job learning and training experiences in a structured manufacturing environment. The core learning areas include:

1. Bottling and Packaging Processes

  • Understanding bottling line operations

  • Learning about the setup, maintenance, and operation of bottling machinery

  • Monitoring packaging quality and output rates

2. Safety, Health, Environment, and Housekeeping (SHEQ)

  • Understanding and adhering to safety protocols

  • Practicing correct food handling procedures

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the workplace according to hygiene standards

  • Participating in safety audits and SHEQ-related training

3. Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Performing quality checks at different stages of the packaging process

  • Understanding specifications for packaging material and finished products

  • Reporting quality concerns to supervisors for corrective action

4. Food Handling Practices

  • Gaining an understanding of food safety standards

  • Ensuring compliance with local and international food safety regulations

  • Applying best practices in handling raw materials and finished goods

Required Qualifications and Experience

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following minimum academic requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

  • Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and Physical Sciences passed with a minimum of 50%

  • Two South African languages passed with a minimum of 40%

  • Must not have completed the same learnership or qualification at another organization

Additional Educational Advantage (Optional)

  • An N5 or N6 certificate in a relevant field will be considered an advantage

Eligibility Criteria

This learnership is specifically designed for unemployed youth in South Africa. The following general criteria must be met:

  • Must be a South African citizen

  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old

  • Must be an Employment Equity (EE) candidate

  • Must be unemployed at the time of applying for the learnership

  • Must be available to commit to the full duration of the program (12 months)
