Purpose of the Role

The Process Artisan is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing the performance of production equipment within the manufacturing plant. The role requires strong mechanical and/or electrical expertise, quick response to breakdowns, and a commitment to continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

You will be required to inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair equipment proactively to reduce downtime, enhance reliability, and minimize production losses.


Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment Maintenance and Reliability

  • Conduct routine planned and preventative maintenance in line with schedules.

  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

  • Respond rapidly to equipment failures and minimize line stoppages.

  • Perform condition monitoring and notify management of deteriorating assets.

2. Production Line Support

  • Ensure efficient start-ups, shutdowns, and format changes on production lines.

  • Support machine operators and process controllers in resolving real-time production issues.

  • Provide technical input to optimize line efficiency.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Maintain equipment to ensure products meet quality specifications.

  • Verify and calibrate sensors and critical control points (CCPs).

  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and ISO standards.

4. Safety and Compliance

  • Comply with SHEQ protocols and Permit-to-Work (PTW) requirements.

  • Perform equipment isolations using Lock-Out, Tag-Out (LOTO) methods.

  • Maintain 5S workplace standards, housekeeping, and cleanliness.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and plant optimization projects.

  • Identify repetitive faults and suggest technical solutions.

  • Contribute to skills transfer and on-the-job training of junior team members.

6. Documentation and Reporting

  • Complete job cards, checklists, and update equipment logs in ERP systems.

  • Accurately report spare parts usage, downtime, and maintenance history.

  • Provide feedback to team leaders for planning and preventive actions.


Minimum Requirements

Education

  • National Diploma or Trade Test Certificate in:

    • Mechanical Fitting

    • Millwright

    • Electrical

    • Mechatronics

  • Valid Red Seal Trade Test – Essential

  • Pneumatics, Hydraulics, and PLC training – Advantageous

Experience

  • 2–3 years of post-apprenticeship experience in FMCG manufacturing, preferably in a bottling plant.

  • Exposure to high-speed packaging lines and automated production systems.

  • Familiarity with maintenance planning systems and SAP/ERP tools.


Skills and Competencies

  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding abilities.

  • Proficient in machine repairs, setups, and format changes.

  • Working knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems (advantageous).

  • Understanding of risk assessments, health and safety, and manufacturing standards.

  • Clear and concise communication, good documentation, and report-writing abilities.

  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and be available for urgent breakdowns.
