Key Purpose of the Role
The purpose of this role is to provide efficient and effective maintenance services that ensure the smooth functioning of the client’s facilities. The Handyman will conduct routine inspections, attend to breakdowns, and complete general maintenance and repair work. This includes tasks such as plumbing, painting, carpentry, welding, and basic electrical work.
The role also requires adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, ensuring all maintenance activities are performed safely and to professional standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Handyman will carry out the following operational, customer service, and reporting duties:
1. Operational Maintenance and Repairs

Perform general repair and maintenance work on building structures, fittings, fixtures, and equipment.

Carry out plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, and mechanical work as required.

Maintain workshop areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition at all times.

Ensure that all maintenance work orders are completed accurately and submitted for review.

Maintain and care for tools, ensuring they remain in excellent working condition.

Attend to reactive and proactive maintenance requests, performing repairs promptly to minimize downtime.

Conduct regular preventative maintenance inspections and document findings.

Support in the completion of scheduled maintenance programs across the facility.
2. Safety and Compliance

Perform all maintenance tasks in compliance with the OHS Act and Tsebo’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality) management policies.

Escort and oversee subcontractors when required, ensuring their work complies with safety standards and site rules.

Conduct safety checks on building systems and report potential hazards to supervisors.

Ensure subcontractors remove all waste and debris upon completing their work.
3. Customer and Service Delivery

Deliver high-quality service that meets the expectations of both Tsebo and the client.

Maintain a professional and customer-focused attitude toward all internal and external stakeholders.

Respond to client queries and maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.

4. Documentation and Reporting

Prepare weekly and monthly maintenance reports as required by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Keep accurate records of all completed tasks, inspections, and service reports.

Maintain a log of maintenance documentation, warranties, and licenses for future reference.

Report recurring maintenance issues and suggest potential improvements.

Minimum Requirements
Education and Qualifications:

Matric / Grade 12 (essential).

NQF Level 4 Technical Qualification (advantageous).
Experience:

Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience in a similar handyman or maintenance role, preferably within a facilities management or engineering environment.

Experience supervising subcontractors or coordinating small projects will be advantageous.
Working Conditions

Must be willing to work after hours or weekends as needed for emergency maintenance tasks (by prior arrangement).

The position requires physical work, including lifting, climbing, and handling maintenance tools and equipment.
