Administrative Officer: Finance/Admin (Patient Administration) – George Regional Hospital

Introduction

The Chief Directorate: Rural Health Services is seeking a competent and motivated Administrative Officer to join their Patient Administration team at George Regional Hospital. This position focuses on finance and administrative support in a hospital setting, ensuring effective management of patient records, debt administration, and compliance with hospital policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Senior Certificate (or equivalent) with Mathematics and/or Accountancy or equivalent experience in finance/admin roles

  • Experience in Patient Administration, debt management, hospital accounting, and medical records

  • Practical experience with Clinicom, JAC, and Accounts Receivable Systems

  • Supervisory experience is advantageous


Competencies and Skills

  • Strong computer literacy: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Clinicom, JAC, Accounts Receivable

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks

  • Knowledge of Patient Administration policies, procedures, and practices

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain accurate filing systems

  • Understanding of Uniform Patient Fee Schedule (UPFS), Hospital Fees Memorandum Chapter 18, and hospital information systems

  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills

  • Conflict resolution and labour relations knowledge


Key Duties

  • Manage patient administration, including queue marshalling and interdepartmental liaison

  • Oversee human resources in Patient Administration: duty rosters, training, and staff development

  • Ensure accurate classification of all patients and debtors for audit compliance

  • Manage attendance, admissions, and financial transactions (cash collection, handover certificates, collector reports)

  • Deliver a professional, patient-focused service while ensuring compliance with hospital and provincial standards


Special Requirements

  • South African citizen

  • Willingness to work flexible hours if required

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport

  • Clear credit and criminal record
