About the Role

Northern Cape Urban TVET College is seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and proactive Employee Health and Wellness Practitioner to support staff wellness and organisational well-being. This role is ideal for professionals experienced in employee wellness, psychology, occupational health, or organisational development who are committed to improving workplace health, resilience, and productivity.

You will be responsible for implementing frameworks, conducting surveys, coordinating wellness programmes, and promoting psychosocial, physical, and emotional wellbeing among staff. This is a high-impact role that blends counselling, programme coordination, wellness advocacy, and compliance reporting within the TVET college environment.


Job Summary

The Employee Health and Wellness Practitioner will coordinate and implement a comprehensive health and wellness programme in line with national policies and strategic frameworks. You will promote healthy workplace practices, support employees through counselling and wellness initiatives, and contribute to organisational risk management and reporting processes.

The role requires a balance of empathy, professionalism, administrative efficiency, and policy knowledge.


Key Responsibilities

Wellness Programme Management

  • Support the implementation of the college’s Employee Health & Wellness Strategic Framework

  • Assist in developing and rolling out health and wellness policies

  • Conduct workplace health and wellness surveys and needs analyses

  • Coordinate programmes based on identified wellbeing priorities and survey results

  • Monitor and evaluate programme performance and impact

Psychosocial Support & Counselling

  • Provide counselling and wellness guidance to employees

  • Promote psychosocial wellness and mental health support

  • Provide interventions to reduce absenteeism and support recovery

  • Referral of complex cases where appropriate

Physical & Lifestyle Wellness

  • Promote physical wellness through sport and recreational activities

  • Support programmes to prevent and manage lifestyle diseases and health risks

  • Create awareness and conduct education campaigns on health-related topics

Risk, Fraud & Ethics Awareness

  • Facilitate training and awareness on institutional risk management, fraud prevention, ethics, and integrity

  • Work with relevant committees to strengthen preventative measures

Reporting & Compliance

  • Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual wellness and risk reports

  • Prepare documentation for council subcommittees, audit, and risk committees

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with reporting policies


Skills and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in:

    • Psychology; OR

    • BA Social Work (majoring in Psychology); OR

    • Sports Science; OR related qualification

Experience:

  • 2–3 years’ experience in Employee Health & Wellness, counselling, organisational development, HR, or a related field

Additional Requirements:

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)

  • Valid driver’s licence (essential)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong presentation and report-writing skills

  • Knowledge of health and wellness policies, systems, and compliance standards

  • Reporting and coordination with management and committees
