Northern Cape Urban TVET College is seeking a passionate, student-focused professional to join the institution as a Student Academic Support Officer. Job Summary

The Student Academic Support Officer is responsible for providing academic, personal, and career support services to students within the college. The role includes student counselling, career guidance, implementing placement programmes, supporting governance structures, and coordinating cultural, recreational, and leadership initiatives.

The ideal candidate understands the TVET environment, the policies that govern the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector, and the needs of diverse student populations.


Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Counselling

  • Provide academic and personal support to students through individual or group counselling

  • Refer students to relevant external services when necessary

  • Facilitate student access to learning resources and support programmes

Career Guidance & Work Placement

  • Implement Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and student work placement policies

  • Support students with career planning, CV building, and workplace readiness

  • Assist in placement opportunities and partnerships to improve student employability

Student Development & Engagement

  • Organise and coordinate student governance activities and leadership training

  • Support student representative bodies and election cycles

  • Plan and facilitate orientation, exit support, and transition programmes

Sports, Culture & Student Life

  • Implement campus programmes in sports, arts, culture, and recreation

  • Foster an inclusive and engaging campus environment through events and initiatives

  • Support student participation in extracurricular and developmental activities


Skills and Requirements

Minimum Qualification:

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Education, Psychology, Social Science, or related field

Experience:

  • 2–3 years’ experience in student support, TVET administration, academic support, or teaching and learning

  • Experience in career guidance, counselling, WIL, or student development is advantageous

Other Requirements:

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Valid driver’s licence (essential)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Report writing and presentation ability

  • Knowledge of:

    • White Paper on Post-School Education and Training

    • PSET and CET Acts

    • Student Support Services Act

    • Student governance and electoral processes
