Minimum Requirements – Who Can Apply

Educational Qualification

Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • A three-year National Diploma (NQF6) or

  • An Undergraduate Degree (NQF7) in one of the following fields:

    • Supply Chain Management

    • Asset Management

    • Public Management / Administration

    • Business Management / Administration

    • Financial Management

    • Accounting

    • Taxation

    • Internal Auditing

Additional Requirements

  • Must be an unemployed South African graduate

  • Must not have participated in any previous internship programme

Role Purpose – Supporting ICT Asset Management Operations

The Asset Management Officer Intern supports the Department’s ICT asset management, ensuring proper administration, monitoring, and accountability of IT equipment and resources.

Key objectives of this internship include:

  • Proper tracking and administration of ICT assets

  • Assisting engineers and ICT staff in asset-related tasks

  • Supporting procurement and disposal processes in coordination with the Supply Chain Management division

  • Learning government asset management practices and public service compliance

This internship is essential for maintaining the integrity, security, and operational availability of ICT resources within the Department.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will gain experience by performing the following duties:

1. ICT Store Administration

  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of all ICT equipment and hardware

  • Support daily administration and management of ICT storerooms

  • Ensure proper documentation for received, issued, and returned items

2. Asset Tracking and Assignment

  • Help manage the ICT inventory and asset register

  • Assist in assigning tasks to ICT engineers based on resource availability

  • Monitor asset movement to ensure compliance with departmental policies

3. Liaison with Supply Chain Management

  • Coordinate with the Supply Chain Management (SCM) team regarding procurement and disposal of ICT assets

  • Support the proper recording of procurement requests and disposal documentation

  • Assist in compliance checks and audits for asset lifecycle management

4. Reporting and Record-Keeping

  • Maintain and update asset management records regularly

  • Support preparation of reports on asset utilisation and availability

  • Ensure all ICT assets are traceable and properly accounted for in compliance with public service standards
