Position Overview
The Pharmacist will provide pharmaceutical services at the Emavundleni Research Centre Pharmacy, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient management of investigational products (IPs) and related pharmaceutical activities. This role supports high-quality clinical research and participant care in line with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), SAHPRA, NIH, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy Management

Maintain pharmacy SOPs, establishment plans, and sections of Research Site Files.

Calibrate and maintain technical appliances, including temperature monitoring devices.

Enforce restricted access control to the pharmacy.
Investigational Product (IP) Management
-
Maintain adequate IP stock levels and store under correct conditions.

Label, dispense, and, if required, administer IPs according to protocol requirements.

Verify prescriptions and informed consent forms (ICFs) prior to dispensing.

Assign participants to IPs via randomization processes.

Receive, reconcile, and properly dispose of IPs per sponsor requirements.
Record Management

Maintain IP accountability and prescription records according to SAPC, SAHPRA, and ICH-GCP standards.

Ensure pharmacy files are inspection-ready at all times.
Clinic Support

Dispense medicines for STI and Family Planning clinics.

Assist with stock ordering and preparation of statistics.

Participate in monitoring visits, audits, trainings, and sponsor calls.
Minimum Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy with SAPC registration.
-
2–3 years post-community service experience as a pharmacist.

Injection technique training or willingness to be trained.

Excellent computer literacy (MS Office).

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Valid driver’s license and own transport preferred.
Advantageous

Clinical trials experience.

Aseptic injection and infusion preparation experience.
-
Human Subjects Protection (HSP) certification.
-
GCP training from an accredited provider (e.g., Crede).
