Purpose of the Role

The primary goal of the General Assistant is to deliver exceptional service to both external customers and internal stakeholders, including delivery and transfer drivers. By ensuring accurate loading, maintaining a tidy environment, and managing stock with precision, you play a critical role in preventing stock losses and ensuring customer satisfaction. Your efforts directly contribute to the store’s efficiency, encouraging repeat business and driving sustainable profit margins.

Key Responsibilities

1. Logistics & Customer Service

• Accurate Loading: Promptly and accurately load customer vehicles, delivery trucks, and transfer trucks to ensure a smooth flow of goods.

• Customer Interaction: Assist customers with friendly service and basic product knowledge within the Electrical Department and yard area.

• Safety & Efficiency: Ensure that all products purchased are handled carefully to prevent damage during the loading process.

2. Stock Management & Control

• Stock Counts: Participate in regular and perpetual stocktakes to ensure inventory accuracy.

• Stacking & Organizing: Ensure that stock (including electrical conduit, cabling, and heavy supplies) is properly stacked and easily accessible.

• Reporting: Immediately report any stock shortages or breakages to your superior to maintain accurate system records.

• Transfers: Assist with the “pulling” of stock for inter-branch transfers accurately.

3. Maintenance & General Tasks

• Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and tidy work area by sweeping and upholding high standards of housekeeping.

• Manual Labor: Assist with the bagging of stone or sand and other physically demanding tasks as required.

• Departmental Support: Perform any other work-related tasks as delegated by your supervisor to support the Electrical Department’s goals.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

• Minimum Requirement: Matric or equivalent.

• Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role is highly preferred.

Core Competencies

• Physical Fitness: High levels of physical fitness and stamina are essential for the manual handling and loading of heavy stock.

• Numerical Ability: The ability to numerically count stock accurately during inventory checks and loading.

• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal) with customers and team members.

• Soft Skills: Must be disciplined, motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a high-pressure team.

• Service Driven: A demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service consistently.
