Job Overview

Purpose of the Role

The primary goal of the Merchandiser is to ensure that products are readily available, correctly priced, and professionally displayed. By implementing strategic layouts and internal advertising displays, you will maximize product visibility and ease of access for our customers. Your role is critical in creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages repeat visits and enhances the overall “Brights” brand experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Visual Merchandising & Display

  • Professional Displays: Ensure stock is neatly packed and professionally displayed, using categorization to make products easily accessible to customers.

  • The “Block System”: Consistently apply the store’s “Block System” to merchandising to maintain a uniform and organized shelf appearance.

  • Promotional Planning: Develop overall promotional and display plans for management approval, including the sourcing of props and accessories to build eye-catching feature displays.

  • Internal Advertising: Plan and install fixed displays designed to show goods in a way that maximizes internal advertising and upselling opportunities.

2. Pricing & Compliance

  • Price Accuracy: Ensure every item is correctly priced and that the price corresponds exactly with the shelf talker.

  • Shelf Aesthetics: Maintain clean shelf talkers, ensuring they are placed correctly (far left of the product) as per store standards.

  • Administrative Accuracy: Verify that transfer numbers match across documentation, including branch details and dates.

3. Safety, Housekeeping & Inventory

  • Aisle Maintenance: Keep the shop floor and aisles clean, clear of obstructions, and safe for customer foot traffic.

  • Hazard Removal: Proactively remove hazards and misplaced products from under shelves.

  • Stock Control: Participate in perpetual stocktakes to ensure inventory levels are accurate.

  • General Housekeeping: Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in your designated work area at all times.

Job Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirement: Grade 12 (Matric) OR 3x completed Intercept courses (120 credits total).

  • Alternative Qualifications: Candidates without Matric will be considered if they have completed a Retail Operations Leadership or NQF 3 Stock Management course (minimum 54 credits).

  • Internal Training: Must complete Brights Induction (Service Excellence) and in-house entry-level merchandising standards.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role or entry-level stock exposure.

  • Product Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the electrical product range (switches, breakers, cabling, etc.).

  • Numerical & Creative Skills: Must be numerically skilled for stock counting and possess creative flair for building displays.
