Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Sales Person – Irrigation is to act as a technical advisor to our customers. You will assist clients in selecting the most suitable irrigation products, ensuring that your expertise leads to appreciated service and successful purchases. By combining excellent customer service with technical proficiency, you will generate sales and promote the Brights Hardware brand while maintaining healthy profit margins.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Sales & Customer Service

Expert Consultation: Advise customers on complex irrigation problems, recommending specific products (pumps, pipes, sprinklers, or automated systems) that best solve their requirements.

Service Excellence: Attend to all customers in a professional, helpful, and friendly manner to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.

Sales Generation: Actively work toward increasing department turnover by identifying upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
2. Inventory & Merchandising

Stock Control: Monitor and control stock levels within the Irrigation department, performing regular and perpetual stock counts to minimize variances.

Ordering: Liaise with buyers to place stock orders as necessary to ensure high-demand items are always available.

Merchandising: Ensure all irrigation products are displayed correctly, are aesthetically pleasing, and are accurately priced.
3. Administration & Housekeeping

Admin Tasks: Maintain the customer book, manage the special orders file, and ensure invoices are forwarded to the correct departments.

Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that reflects the professional standards of Brights Hardware.

Delegated Tasks: Perform any other work-related duties as assigned by the department head or branch manager.
Job Requirements
Education & Certification

Minimum Requirement: Matric or equivalent.

Technical Competency: At least 5 basic technical supplier competency certificates are required.

Service Training: Evidence of formal Customer Service Training.
Experience & Knowledge

Irrigation Expertise: A minimum of 3 years of sales experience specifically within an Irrigation Department.

Hardware Industry: At least 3 years of experience in a similar role within a Hardware environment.

Product Knowledge: Must demonstrate intermediate to advanced product knowledge of irrigation components and systems.

Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.

Sales Technique: Demonstrate an acceptable and proven sales technique suitable for a retail hardware environment.
