Stock Control and Operations Opportunity at Empact Group – Food Solutions
Empact Group is currently recruiting an experienced Storeman to join its Food Solutions division on a permanent basis in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This associate-level operations role is ideal for a reliable and detail-oriented professional with proven stock control experience, strong numerical ability, and the confidence to supervise stores operations within a food or hospitality environment.
The role is critical in ensuring accurate stock administration, effective supplier coordination, compliance with food safety standards, and seamless operational support to catering teams.
About the Role
The Storeman is responsible for administering and controlling all stock-related activities, including ordering, receiving, issuing, storage, supervision of store associates, and compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards. The role requires close collaboration with suppliers, internal departments, and the Project or Assistant Catering Manager to ensure stock levels, quality, and costs are aligned with operational requirements and budgets.
This is a hands-on operational role that demands the ability to work independently, manage pressure during peak periods, and maintain strict hygiene and stock control standards.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Ordering and Supplier Liaison
The successful candidate will place orders upon approval from the Project or Assistant Catering Manager and liaise directly with suppliers. This includes verifying that prices and quantities align with approved order sheets and supplier invoices.
Stock Receiving and Quality Control
Responsibilities include receiving all stock from suppliers, checking goods for quality, correct labelling, and compliance with data sheets, and ensuring all received stock is accurate and in good condition.
Issuing and Stock Distribution
The Storeman will issue stock and groceries to all departments, accurately weigh food products issued for production, and ensure stock movements are recorded and controlled correctly.
Stock Level and Budget Control
The role requires managing minimum and maximum stock levels in line with budget requirements, maintaining appropriate stock ratios, and implementing strict controls to prevent stock losses, wastage, or overstocking.
Stocktakes and Record Management
The successful candidate will assist with weekly and monthly stocktakes and ensure that all HSE records and documentation are completed accurately and on time.
Supervision and Store Management
Responsibilities include supervising the storeroom, fridge, and freezer areas, ensuring they are locked, clean, and well-organised at all times. The Storeman will also supervise store associates and ensure all stock is packed away after each mealtime service.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene Compliance
The role requires maintaining strict hygiene standards, conducting quality checks on all food products, and ensuring full compliance with HSE policies and company procedures. Weekend work may be required as part of operational needs.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this role must meet the following requirements:

Minimum 4 years’ work experience in a storeman or stock control role

Matric qualification (Logistics qualification advantageous)

Experience in a hospitality or food environment (preferred but not essential)

Valid driver’s license

Systems and supervisory experience (advantageous)
