Position Overview

Clinix Health Group is seeking a Billings Auditor to join the Finance Department at Clinix Naledi Nkanyezi Private Hospital in Sebokeng. Reporting to the Patient Services Manager, the successful candidate will oversee hospital billing audits to ensure that all services and products provided to patients accurately reconcile with the Rand value reflected on the final hospital bill.

This role plays a critical part in billing accuracy, compliance, financial risk reduction, and revenue assurance, particularly within Medical Scheme, COID, RAF, and private patient billing environments.


Key Responsibilities

Billing Oversight & Audit Functions

  • Oversee the hospital’s billing audit process to ensure alignment between patient services rendered and billed amounts
  • Perform detailed audits of patient files against itemised billing in accordance with company billing rules and Medical Scheme contracts
  • Print and review pro-forma invoices for allocated patient files
  • Conduct End of Case (EOC) processes on the approved billing system

SAP Reporting & Financial Controls

  • Access and analyse daily SAP billing reports, including:
    • Billing Status Report
    • Released for Final Billing
    • Discharged Not Released
  • Use reports as management tools to identify negative billing trends
  • Escalate deviations and trends to relevant departments and ensure corrective action is implemented
  • Verify accurate maintenance of supplier invoices

Patient File & Clinical Verification

Audit patient files in line with company standards and Medical Scheme contracts, including:

  • Verification of patient demographics, Medical Scheme details, and admission/discharge times
  • Verification of medication prescribed, administered, returned, and reconciled with Pharmacy records
  • Verification of surgical movement (where applicable), including theatre time, gases, and equipment used
  • Verification of Length of Stay (LOS) updates against Medical Scheme authorisations
  • Verification that treatment categories on SAP reconcile with patient file documentation

Compliance, Corrections & Private Patient Billing

  • Document billing corrections and escalate to relevant departments
  • Verify that corrections have been completed accurately prior to final billing
  • Conduct sample audits on billing team outputs to assess quality and accuracy
  • Perform final bill verification on SAP prior to submission
  • For private patients (including COID and RAF cases), process final invoices as paper claims
  • Forward audited patient files to the Collections Department for further management

Minimum Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a hospital billing or billing audit environment
  • Advanced computer literacy
  • Working knowledge of hospital billing processes and Medical Scheme contracts
  • SAP experience (advantageous)
