Media24 is currently looking for an experienced Chief Sports Content Creator to lead Daily Sun’s sports editorial strategy and produce engaging multimedia sports content.


Position Overview

The Chief Sports Content Creator will lead the sports content strategy for Daily Sun across digital and traditional platforms.

This senior role combines sports journalism expertise, digital storytelling, and editorial leadership to ensure Daily Sun delivers compelling sports coverage that connects with readers and sports fans across South Africa.

The successful candidate will oversee sports reporting, manage a team of content creators, and ensure high-impact storytelling across multiple media channels.


Key Responsibilities

Sports Content Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sports content strategy across all Daily Sun platforms
  • Plan editorial coverage for major sporting events, leagues, and tournaments
  • Identify emerging sports stories, trends, and personalities relevant to Daily Sun readers
  • Create editorial calendars aligned with major sporting seasons
  • Establish Daily Sun’s distinctive voice in the South African sports media landscape

Content Creation & Multimedia Storytelling

  • Produce high-quality sports articles, features, interviews, and analysis
  • Create compelling long-form features, investigative pieces, and human-interest sports stories
  • Develop multimedia content including videos, podcasts, and interactive digital content
  • Write match reports, commentary, and sports analysis for major competitions
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with athletes, coaches, and sports administrators

Multimedia Production

  • Coordinate sports photography and video coverage for key events
  • Collaborate with multimedia teams to create engaging visual sports content
  • Develop strategies for live coverage and real-time sports reporting
  • Produce infographics, data visualisations, and interactive content
  • Coordinate live-streaming and social media reporting during major events

Community & Industry Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with local sports clubs, schools, and academies
  • Highlight grassroots sports achievements and community sporting talent
  • Engage with fans through social media and community events
  • Maintain relationships with sports administrators, agents, and industry stakeholders
  • Secure exclusive interviews and content partnerships with sports personalities

Required Knowledge & Skills

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Extensive knowledge of the South African sports landscape, including professional and grassroots competitions
  • Understanding of international sports trends and global competitions
  • Strong writing, editing, photography, and video production skills
  • Proficiency in digital publishing platforms and content management systems
  • Ability to analyze audience engagement and content performance data
  • Familiarity with sports betting, fantasy sports, and sports entertainment trends
  • Exceptional storytelling and editorial creativity
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships with sports professionals
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during major sporting events

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Sports Communication, or related field
  • Formal qualification in Sports Journalism or relevant certification (preferred)
  • 5–7 years of experience in sports journalism
  • At least 3 years in a senior content creation or editorial role
  • Demonstrated success in multimedia sports storytelling and audience engagement
  • Experience covering major sporting events and professional leagues
  • Strong industry networks within sports organizations and athletes

Additional Preferred Skills

Candidates with the following experience will have an advantage:

  • Podcast production and sports broadcasting experience
  • Knowledge of sports analytics and performance statistics
  • Advanced experience with content management systems and publishing tools
  • Familiarity with SEO optimisation and content analytics platforms
  • Experience using social media management and scheduling tools
  • Skills in basic photography and video editing
  • Knowledge of live blogging and real-time sports reporting platforms
