Position Overview
The Marketing Manager – Rx is responsible for leading the company’s prescription brand portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment between marketing, medical, regulatory, and sales functions.
This role focuses on delivering evidence-based pharmaceutical marketing strategies that enhance brand positioning and drive prescription growth among healthcare professionals (HCPs).
The successful candidate will oversee brand managers, KOL engagement strategies, digital detailing initiatives, and continuing medical education programs, while ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical marketing regulations.
This is a strategic leadership role that requires strong analytical thinking, clinical communication expertise, and the ability to translate market insights into measurable marketing performance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the overall Rx brand portfolio strategy
- Align brand marketing strategies with medical, regulatory, and sales objectives
- Ensure strong clinical positioning and evidence-based product claims
- Lead lifecycle management of pharmaceutical brands
Healthcare Professional (HCP) Marketing
- Oversee the development of detail aids, objection handlers, and marketing materials
- Guide CME/CPD programs, advisory boards, and KOL engagement
- Partner with medical teams to ensure credible and compliant messaging
- Manage digital detailing platforms and closed-loop marketing (CLM) tools
- Monitor engagement metrics and optimize HCP communication strategies
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Rx Brand Managers
- Build internal capability in data-driven marketing strategies
- Conduct performance reviews and career development planning
- Drive a culture of strategic thinking and compliance
Market Insights and Data Analysis
- Analyse prescription data, competitor activity, and market trends
- Translate insights into actionable pharmaceutical marketing strategies
- Monitor the ROI of HCP campaigns and marketing initiatives
- Use CLM analytics and digital detailing insights to improve marketing effectiveness
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with sales, regulatory affairs, medical teams, and supply chain
- Provide strategic input to senior leadership and executive teams
- Collaborate with finance teams on forecasting and marketing budgets
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure all marketing initiatives comply with South African Health Products Regulatory Authority regulations and industry standards
- Maintain strict internal approval processes for pharmaceutical marketing campaigns
- Ensure all promotional materials meet ethical and regulatory requirements
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this pharmaceutical marketing leadership job in South Africa should meet the following criteria:
Education
- Degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related field
- MBA or postgraduate qualification will be advantageous
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical marketing or Rx brand management
