Position Overview

The Solar Technician will play a critical role in designing, installing, commissioning, and maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems for a wide range of renewable energy projects.

This position combines hands-on technical installation work with project supervision and operational responsibilities, including managing local technicians, overseeing store operations, and engaging with government stakeholders.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Electrical Supervisor and support renewable energy projects across Vanuatu and surrounding island regions.

Due to the nature of these projects, the role requires frequent travel to remote island locations and international project sites, making it an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about renewable energy engineering and sustainable infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities

Renewable Energy System Installation

  • Design and install off-grid solar PV systems and battery storage solutions
  • Conduct testing and commissioning of renewable energy installations
  • Perform system diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Ensure systems operate efficiently and meet technical standards

Project Site Management

  • Oversee solar installation projects at remote locations
  • Supervise project timelines and ensure high-quality delivery
  • Coordinate with engineers, technicians, and project managers
  • Ensure installations comply with safety regulations and project specifications

Team Leadership and Mentorship

  • Supervise and mentor local technicians and trainees
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on training
  • Support skill development among local workforce and students

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding project progress
  • Maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders
  • Represent the company at industry meetings and conferences

Project Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare and submit post-installation reports
  • Sign off on technical project documentation for government and international aid-funded projects
  • Maintain accurate project records and system documentation

Technical Support and Maintenance

  • Provide ongoing technical support for existing renewable energy systems
  • Perform maintenance and servicing of solar installations
  • Respond to system issues and ensure minimal downtime

Operational and Store Management

  • Ordering and controlling stock levels

Tender and Project Development Support

Minimum Requirements

Education and Licensing

  • Valid electrical licence or relevant electrical qualification
  • Renewable energy certification is advantageous

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in solar PV and battery system installations
  • Experience with off-grid solar power systems

Experience with the following systems will be highly beneficial:

  • Victron Energy solar and battery systems
  • ATESS energy storage systems

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of solar PV system design and installation
  • Ability to interpret single-line diagrams (SLDs) and electrical schematics
  • Experience using electrical design software
  • Proficiency with hand tools and battery-powered installation equipment
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies

Computer Skills

  • Competency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
