Position Overview

TWK Agri is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to join the Timber Division in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

This senior role is responsible for overseeing procurement operations, supplier and contractor management, and strategic sourcing activities that support the division’s operational goals.

The successful candidate will drive cost optimisation, supplier performance, compliance, and procurement efficiency while collaborating with operational teams across forestry, transport, harvesting, and maintenance functions.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Strategy & Supplier Management

  • Develop and implement procurement policies, procedures, and strategies aligned with divisional objectives.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers while negotiating favourable contract terms.
  • Build strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, reliability, and competitive pricing.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Contract & Contractor Management

  • Oversee contractor selection, onboarding, and evaluation processes.
  • Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, execution, renewal, and termination.
  • Ensure contractors comply with operational KPIs, safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Resolve disputes and implement contractor performance improvement plans.

Procurement & Cost Optimisation

  • Identify opportunities to reduce procurement costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Analyse contractor cost trends, utilisation, and service delivery performance.
  • Develop contractor benchmarking tools and performance dashboards.
  • Negotiate service-level agreements (SLAs), penalties, and incentive structures.

Operational Collaboration

  • Partner with operational teams to align contractor capacity with harvesting, transport, silviculture, and maintenance requirements.
  • Forecast demand and coordinate procurement planning across departments.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to ensure availability while minimising waste.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with procurement regulations, forestry standards, and internal policies.
  • Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks.
  • Collaborate with Legal and HSE teams to manage compliance and dispute resolution.

Reporting & Leadership

  • Analyse procurement performance and present insights to senior management.
  • Prepare detailed procurement and operational reports.
  • Lead and develop the procurement team while facilitating training and development opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years’ experience in procurement management, preferably in the timber, forestry, or agriculture sector.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles, supplier negotiations, and contract management.
  • Familiarity with procurement regulations, compliance standards, and risk management.
  • Experience with procurement and financial systems such as SAP, Oracle, AS400, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Code 08).
  • Willingness to travel, including cross-border travel.
  • Valid passport.

Advantageous Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration.
  • Professional procurement certifications such as CPSM or CIPS.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans.
