Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a motivated Dispensary Support staff member for its Vaal Mall store in Vanderbijlpark. This fixed-term contract role is designed for learners aiming to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course, providing hands-on experience in dispensary operations. Permanent employment is offered upon successful registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy & Dispensing Support
- Assist pharmacists with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and other scheduled substances under direct supervision
- Support compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved SOPs
- Accurately interpret and assist in script picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
Stock & Inventory Management
- Receive and unpack dispensary stock, ensuring proper organization and cleanliness of shelves
- Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and ensure FIFO rotation of medicines
- Report low stock or discrepancies to the dispensary manager
Customer & Patient Support
- Provide information and guidance to patients to promote health awareness
- Assist with patient follow-ups, script tracking, and call centre support
- Support chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication scheme authorizations
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure all medications are checked and signed off by a pharmacist
- Maintain dispensary SOP compliance, hygiene, and regulatory standards
- Follow company policies, SOPs, and pharmaceutical regulations
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science
- Completion of a proficiency test for SAPC learner basic pharmacist assistant registration
- Strong English communication skills (reading, writing, speaking)
Advantageous Skills
- Retail or Dis-Chem front shop experience
- Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, or e-Scripting systems
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
