Position Overview

Dis-Chem is currently seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Mompati store in Vryburg. This role focuses on delivering safe, accurate, and professional pharmaceutical support services under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with prescription processing, medicine dispensing support, patient care services, and maintaining compliance with pharmacy regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Support & Dispensing

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
  • Support the compounding, preparation, and manipulation of medicines
  • Assist with medicine manufacturing and re-packaging under supervision
  • Help with prescription reading, interpretation, and processing
  • Ensure correct labelling, picking, packing, and checking of medication

Stock & Inventory Control

  • Assist with ordering and control of scheduled medicines (up to Schedule 6)
  • Receive and manage dispensary stock according to SOPs
  • Maintain FEFO (First Expiry First Out) stock rotation
  • Report low stock levels and discrepancies
  • Assist with bi-annual stock counts

Patient Care & Customer Service

  • Advise patients on correct medicine usage
  • Assist with self-medication and front-shop queries
  • Explain medical aid costs and dispensing procedures
  • Provide health-related information to promote wellness
  • Follow up on prescriptions and patient requirements

Administration & Compliance

  • Capture and verify patient and prescription data accurately
  • Maintain patient profiles and update system records
  • Assist with medical aid claims and corrections
  • Ensure compliance with SAPC and legal pharmacy standards
  • Support chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations

Minimum Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Experience with Unisolv system
  • Strong numerical and communication skills
  • Willing to work retail pharmacy hours

Advantageous Requirements

  • Experience in FMCG or retail pharmacy environment
  • Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting systems
  • Experience with chronic, family planning, or complementary medicine
  • Additional language proficiency
