This role is designed as a learnership pathway that allows successful candidates to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course, leading to permanent employment upon qualification and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Position Overview: Dispensary Support Learnership
As a Dispensary Support team member, you will be employed on a fixed-term basis while completing your pharmacy assistant training. During this period, you will gain practical experience working under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist.
This is an ideal opportunity for matriculants with strong Mathematics and Science results who want to become qualified pharmacist assistants.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this learnership, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Pure Mathematics with at least 50%
- Life Sciences and/or Physical Science with at least 50%
- Ability to pass a proficiency test required for SAPC learner registration
- Clear criminal and credit record
- South African citizenship
Key Responsibilities
As a Dispensary Support Learner, your duties will include:
Pharmacy Assistance
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines
- Help with stock unpacking and merchandising
- Label and pack medication under pharmacist supervision
- Ensure medicines are checked and approved by a pharmacist
Customer Service
- Assist patients with queries
- Conduct follow-up calls regarding prescriptions
- Promote health awareness and provide general guidance
Stock Management
- Monitor expiry dates
- Maintain shelf cleanliness and organization
- Report low stock and stock discrepancies
Administrative Duties
- Assist with medical aid authorizations
- Capture prescription information accurately
- Support the dispensary manager with daily operations

Advantageous Experience
The following will be beneficial:

- Knowledge of Unisolv, SAP, or e-Scripting systems
- Knowledge of family planning and complementary medicine
- Ability to speak a third language
