Job Overview

The Dispensary Support role is a fixed-term learner position. Candidates will work under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist while completing training required for SAPC registration.

Once successfully qualified and registered, candidates may be offered permanent employment as a pharmacist assistant.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Pure Mathematics (minimum 50%)
  • Life Sciences and/or Physical Science (minimum 50%)
  • Minimum average of 50%
  • Must pass SAPC proficiency test for learner registration
  • South African citizen
  • Clean credit and criminal record

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Assistance Duties

  • Assist with dispensing Schedule 1 medicines under supervision
  • Support preparation and compounding of medication
  • Help with labelling, packing, and checking of medicines
  • Ensure pharmacist verification of all prescriptions

Stock Control

  • Monitor expiry dates and stock rotation (FIFO system)
  • Assist with receiving and storing pharmacy stock
  • Report shortages and discrepancies to management

Customer Service

  • Assist patients with prescription queries
  • Support call centre and follow-up communication
  • Provide basic health-related information under supervision

Administrative Support

  • Assist with medical aid authorisations (HIV, chronic, oncology)
  • Capture and update prescription records accurately
  • Assist with script tracking and reporting
