Job Overview

As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant at the Walmer Park branch, you will be responsible for supporting pharmaceutical care services under pharmacist supervision while ensuring accurate dispensing, stock control, and patient support.

This is a patient-facing healthcare role requiring strong technical pharmacy knowledge and attention to detail.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Support

  • Assist with dispensing Schedule 1–2 medicines under supervision
  • Support preparation, compounding, and packaging of medicines
  • Assist with prescription interpretation and preparation
  • Ensure pharmacist verification of all medication

Patient Care

  • Provide instructions on correct medicine usage
  • Assist patients at dispensary and front-shop
  • Support chronic, HIV, and oncology medication authorisation
  • Follow up with patients regarding prescriptions

Stock & Operations Control

  • Manage stock rotation using FEFO principles
  • Assist with ordering and receiving pharmaceutical stock
  • Report stock shortages and discrepancies
  • Participate in bi-annual stock counts

Administration & Compliance

  • Capture and verify patient details accurately
  • Process medical aid claims and corrections
  • Maintain patient profiles on system
  • Ensure compliance with SAPC regulations and SOPs
