Main Purpose of the Job

The Device Technician is responsible for testing, inspecting, grading, repairing, and processing used electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and other technology products. The goal is to ensure devices meet quality standards before they are resold or moved to the next stage of processing.

Main Responsibilities

1. Device Testing and Diagnostics

• Test devices using approved software and tools.
• Check if devices are working properly.
• Identify hardware and software faults.
• Record test results accurately.
• Report serious technical issues to supervisors.

2. Device Grading

• Inspect the physical condition of devices.
• Grade devices according to company standards.
• Check for scratches, dents, cracks, and functionality.
• Keep accurate grading records.

3. Repairs and Troubleshooting

• Perform basic repairs on devices.
• Diagnose hardware and software problems.
• Test repaired devices to ensure they work correctly.
• Ensure repaired devices meet quality requirements.

4. Warehouse and Inventory Duties

• Receive and sort incoming devices.
• Label and process stock.
• Assist with dispatching devices.
• Help maintain stock accuracy.
• Update inventory records.

5. Administration and Reporting

• Capture test and repair results.
• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Follow company procedures and audit requirements.
• Ensure documentation is complete and accurate.

6. Safety and Housekeeping

• Follow warehouse safety rules.
• Keep the work area clean and organized.
• Protect company assets and equipment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Education

• Matric (Grade 12).
• CompTIA A+ Certification is an advantage.

Experience

• 1–3 years of experience in:
  • Device repairs
  • Technical support
  • Hardware diagnostics
  • Electronics troubleshooting

Knowledge

• Computer hardware and software.
• Mobile devices and electronics.
• Diagnostic and testing software.
• Inventory and warehouse processes.
