Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Casual Merchandiser for its Musgrave store in Durban. This entry-level, part-time opportunity is ideal for candidates looking to gain retail and FMCG experience while contributing to a fast-paced store environment.

The role focuses on maintaining merchandising standards, ensuring product availability, and delivering exceptional customer service on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Restock merchandise to ensure optimal product availability and maximum sales
  • Ensure delivered stock and storeroom stock is stored and packed correctly and timeously
  • Monitor sell-by dates and remove expired stock
  • Ensure full product ranges are available on shelves at all times
  • Rotate stock using FIFO principles
  • Report low stock levels, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management
  • Assist with stock counts, stock files, and general stocktaking
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem store layouts, planograms, and merchandising standards
  • Maintain neat, visible, and correctly priced shelves
  • Build, face up, stock, and maintain merchandising displays
  • Assist with loading and off-loading of stock
  • Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked
  • Support back shopping and training of new staff
  • Provide friendly, professional assistance to all customers
  • Follow up on customer out-of-stock queries
  • Wear correct uniform and badge at all times
  • Minimise losses through careful handling of merchandise
  • Comply with company policies, SOPs, and health & safety regulations

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Up to 6 months retail experience
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Advantageous:

  • At least 1 year retail experience

  • Bilingual communication skills
  • Knowledge of FMCG merchandising standards

  • Ability to analyse ZMORE reports
  • Awareness of loss prevention practices
