To strengthen its multimedia capabilities, Daily Sun is hiring two skilled Videographers to support its growing focus on digital-first video storytelling.


Position Overview

The Videographer will be responsible for capturing high-quality video footage that supports Daily Sun’s multimedia journalism initiatives.

Working closely with the Video Editor and multimedia journalists, the Videographer will focus on field-based video production, ensuring that professional-grade footage is captured for editing into engaging digital content across Daily Sun’s website and social media platforms.

This role combines technical filming expertise with journalistic awareness, helping Daily Sun deliver compelling visual stories that resonate with its audience.


Key Responsibilities

Video Production & Field Coverage

  • Capture high-quality video footage for news stories, feature articles, and multimedia projects
  • Operate professional video equipment including cameras, audio recorders, lighting, and stabilisation tools
  • Conduct video interviews with community leaders, newsmakers, and story subjects
  • Provide on-location video coverage for breaking news, community events, and press conferences
  • Respond quickly to breaking news situations and capture footage for immediate digital publication
  • Document protests, celebrations, sporting events, and community gatherings

Collaboration with Editorial Teams

  • Work closely with multimedia journalists to ensure complete multimedia coverage of stories
  • Coordinate with the Video Editor on pre-production planning and shooting strategies
  • Participate in story planning to identify visual storytelling opportunities
  • Maintain awareness of Daily Sun’s editorial focus and audience interests

Technical Equipment Management

  • Maintain and operate professional video production equipment
  • Conduct regular equipment checks and perform basic troubleshooting
  • Coordinate equipment requirements for different assignments and events
  • Stay up to date with new camera technologies and production techniques

Production Planning

  • Research shooting locations and plan logistics before assignments
  • Prepare equipment and develop shot lists based on story requirements
  • Scout locations and assess technical challenges before filming

File Management & Post-Production Support

  • Review captured footage for technical quality and completeness
  • Organize and label video files using consistent metadata and naming conventions
  • Transfer footage securely to editing systems for post-production
  • Provide the Video Editor with detailed notes on footage and interview content
  • Maintain detailed logs to support efficient post-production workflows

Required Knowledge & Skills

Candidates should possess the following capabilities:

  • Advanced proficiency with professional video cameras (DSLR, mirrorless, camcorders)
  • Strong knowledge of video composition, lighting techniques, and audio capture
  • Understanding of technical video standards and file formats
  • Familiarity with digital file management and media transfer protocols
  • Strong visual storytelling abilities and creative shooting techniques
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high production quality
  • Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced news environments
  • Professional communication skills when working with community members and news sources

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Formal qualification in Journalism, Media Studies, Video Production, Film Studies, or Media Technology
  • Certificate or diploma in Video Production or Film/TV Production may also be accepted
  • 2–4 years of experience in video production, preferably within news or documentary environments
  • Proven experience in field-based video shooting, including interviews and event coverage
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under tight deadlines
  • Experience working with editorial teams and supporting post-production workflows

Technical Equipment Experience

Successful candidates should have experience with:

  • Professional video cameras and lenses
  • Tripods, stabilisers, and gimbal systems
  • Portable lighting kits
  • Professional microphones and audio recorders
  • Video storage, backup, and data transfer systems

A basic understanding of video editing workflows will be beneficial for collaborating with post-production teams.
