Media24 is currently hiring a UX/UI Team Lead in Cape Town to guide a talented design team and shape the future of digital product experiences across its platforms.

Position Overview

The UX/UI Team Lead sits at the intersection of design, psychology, and technology, leading a team of designers while actively contributing to complex product design challenges.

This leadership role involves driving the end-to-end UX/UI strategy, transforming high-level business objectives into intuitive and engaging digital experiences. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure that Media24’s digital platforms deliver seamless user journeys.

The role requires someone who values data-driven design, understands user behaviour, and is passionate about building a strong design culture focused on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

UX/UI Strategy & Product Design

• Drive the end-to-end UX/UI strategy for Media24’s digital products.
• Translate high-level business goals into intuitive and user-friendly design solutions.
• Develop prototypes and wireframes to align teams around product direction.
• Ensure product experiences follow modern UX/UI design principles and industry best practices.

User Research & Testing

• Create and manage a comprehensive user testing programme for Media24 brands.
• Build and maintain a user testing panel for continuous research and feedback.
• Conduct interviews, usability tests, and A/B testing to validate design decisions.
• Analyse behavioural data and transform insights into actionable product improvements.

Design System Leadership

• Oversee the evolution of Media24’s design system across platforms.
• Ensure consistency in design patterns, typography, and visual language.
• Balance brand consistency with opportunities for creative innovation.

Team Leadership & Design Culture

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of UX/UI designers.
• Run design critiques that encourage creative problem-solving and collaboration.
• Remove roadblocks and support designers in delivering high-quality work.
• Foster a culture where experimentation and “safe failure” drive innovation.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and design teams.
• Ensure design concepts remain technically feasible without compromising user experience.
• Act as the voice of the user during product planning and executive discussions.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies

• Explore and implement AI-powered design tools and services.
• Continuously improve user experiences by applying the latest UX/UI trends and technologies.
• Push the boundaries of design to create world-class digital products.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this role should meet the following criteria:

Educational Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification such as:

• BA Hons in Visual Communication or Interaction Design
• BA Hons Information Design
• BCom Hons in Information Systems
• BSc Hons in Computer Science
• BSocSc Hons
• BA Hons in Psychology, Sociology, or Anthropology

A UX/UI-focused qualification will be highly advantageous.

Experience

• 7+ years of UX/UI design experience
• 2+ years leading or mentoring a design team
• Proven experience designing digital products with measurable impact
• Strong experience conducting user research and usability testing
• Experience using data-driven methods such as A/B testing

Technical Skills

Applicants should demonstrate strong proficiency in:

• Figma (variables, auto-layout, advanced prototyping)
• Adobe Creative Suite tools
• UX research platforms such as Maze
• Prototyping and wireframing tools

Candidates should also have a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript constraints to effectively collaborate with developers.

Portfolio Requirement

Applicants must submit a UX/UI design portfolio demonstrating their design process. Media24 specifically looks for portfolios that showcase:

• Early concept sketches
• Design iterations
• User testing insights
• Problem-solving methodology
• Final product outcomes

A strong portfolio should clearly show the full design journey, not just final screens.
