About the Role

The Perpetual Inventory Controller is responsible for conducting daily stock counts, verifying system accuracy, and investigating variances between physical stock and system records.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring inventory accuracy, reducing shrinkage, identifying damaged or incorrect stock, and maintaining proper stock control procedures across the store.


Key Responsibilities of a Perpetual Inventory Controller

Stock Counting & Verification

  • Perform daily cycle stock counts according to PIC cycle schedules
  • Compare physical stock counts with system stock on hand
  • Investigate all stock variances (positive and negative)
  • Identify damaged, missing, or incorrect stock items
  • Conduct mini stock takes when required by management
  • Assist with full store stock-take preparations

Variance Investigation & Reporting

  • Investigate causes of stock discrepancies
  • Report all variances to the Store Manager
  • Escalate unresolved issues to Divisional Manager if necessary
  • Report incorrect pricing, SKU errors, and stock issues
  • Identify poor merchandising or stock handling concerns

Inventory Adjustments & Control

  • Ensure all inventory adjustments are correctly processed
  • Verify and sign off adjustment entries with management
  • Validate end-of-day reports against PIC adjustment sheets
  • Ensure timely correction of stock errors before trading ends

Documentation & Administration

  • Complete and file all PIC-related documentation daily
  • Ensure all stock count records are signed and approved
  • Maintain accurate filing systems for audit and compliance purposes

Store Operations Support

  • Assist with stock-take preparation and execution
  • Monitor bulk stock areas for discrepancies or issues
  • Support operational readiness through accurate inventory reporting

Minimum Requirements – Perpetual Inventory Controller

Education:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) required

Experience:

  • 1 year relevant experience OR 2 years retail/stock control experience

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong numerical ability (essential)
  • Basic computer literacy (essential)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good communication skills (English required)
