Purpose of the Role
As the first point of contact for customers, the Cashier plays a vital role in ensuring a positive customer experience. You will handle cash, card, and cheque payments, operate tills efficiently, and maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of the front-of-house area.
This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and are committed to delivering excellent service every time.
Key Responsibilities
In the Cashier role at Fedics, you will be expected to:
Customer Service:

Greet customers warmly with a smile and acknowledge each guest upon arrival.

Uphold the highest standards of customer service by treating every customer as important and valued.

Handle customer questions and concerns professionally, ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
Cash and Payment Handling:
-
Receive payments via cash, debit/credit cards, or cheques using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
-
Issue receipts accurately and return appropriate change to customers.
-
Conduct float checks at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure cash drawer balances.
-
Perform daily cash-ups accurately and reconcile till contents against recorded sales.

Escalate and account for any discrepancies immediately as per standard procedures.
Operational Duties:

Ensure the cashier counters and surrounding areas are kept clean, organized, and operational at all times.

Verify that tills are functional and stocked with sufficient change, paper rolls, and printer ribbons.

Report any till or equipment issues promptly to the Admin Assistant or Admin Manager.
Stock and Merchandising Support:

Restock shelves, fridges, and resale areas daily to maintain a clean and appealing product display.

Assist with front-of-house operations during busy periods, including managing orders and supporting the service team.

Prepare daily sales analysis reports to support business tracking and decision-making.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene:

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all customer-facing areas.

Follow health and safety regulations and company policies at all times to ensure a safe environment for staff and customers.
Skills and Competencies
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate:

Clerical and Administrative Ability: Enjoys administrative tasks such as cash reconciliation and sales reporting.

Cash Handling Confidence: Comfortable and experienced in managing large volumes of cash and processing various payment methods.

Technical Skills: Proficient in operating different types of POS tills.

Attention to Detail: Highly accurate in processing transactions and handling stock.

Organizational Skills: Able to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently to ensure the front-of-house area runs smoothly.

Customer Orientation: Friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile for customer satisfaction.

Adaptability: Willing to assist wherever needed, including cleaning duties during quieter periods.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this Cashier opportunity at Fedics, you must meet the following criteria:

Education: Grade 12/Matric certificate is mandatory.

Experience:
-
Minimum of 2 to 4 years’ experience in a cashiering role, preferably in the catering, retail, or hospitality sector.

Demonstrated experience with point-of-sale systems and cash reconciliation processes.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is essential; additional languages are an advantage.
