About the Food Service Assistant Role
The Food Service Assistant plays a vital support role within the catering and food service environment. In this position, you will assist with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas, and ensuring that all health and safety regulations are upheld. You will work as part of a committed team to deliver high-quality food service that meets client and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a Food Service Assistant, your daily responsibilities will include:

Assisting with meal preparation under the supervision of chefs or supervisors.

Placing entrees, salads, and other items on the serving line.

Maintaining a clean and organized food service area, including canteen tables, kitchen counters, and food storage zones.

Ensuring that food hygiene and cleanliness standards are strictly adhered to.

Monitoring and replenishing stock on the serving line to ensure smooth meal service.

Assisting with the training of new team members, as needed.

Storing and recording leftover food items appropriately to reduce waste.

Supporting compliance with statutory food safety regulations and company-specific policies.

Delivering excellent customer service and handling customer complaints or compliments professionally.

Assisting with stock counts and handing over responsibilities to the next shift.

Attending team meetings and training sessions as required by management.

Taking part in any additional reasonable tasks or requests made by supervisors or management.

Working night shifts or weekend shifts, depending on the rota.
Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualifications:

Matric / Grade 12 Certificate is essential.
Experience:
-
Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in a similar food service or catering assistant role.

Experience working in a commercial kitchen, canteen, or hospitality environment is preferred.
