What Does a Customer Service Team Member Do?

As a Customer Service Team Member, your daily responsibilities will include face-to-face interaction with customers, managing transactions, taking and packaging orders, and ensuring the store environment is welcoming and efficient. You’ll be the first point of contact for many customers, so delivering a positive customer experience is key.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers with professionalism and a friendly attitude

  • Recommend current specials, deals, and promotions to increase sales

  • Handle customer questions, concerns, and complaints with calmness and accuracy

  • Communicate effectively with team members and shift supervisors to ensure seamless service

  • Operate a point-of-sale (POS) system for processing cash, card, and mobile transactions

  • Accurately balance and monitor cash levels at the till

  • Wrap, bag, or box items neatly for customers

  • Keep the checkout, counter, and front-of-house areas clean and orderly throughout the day

  • Take, manage, and package phone and counter orders efficiently

  • Follow standard operating procedures and ensure store compliance

  • Receive and unpack new stock, checking for quality and accuracy

  • Ensure all outgoing orders are packed correctly and labelled properly

  • Deliver food and orders at collection counters or to customers’ tables

  • Stay informed on daily tasks and collaborate with team members to meet service targets

Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this full-time role must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate

  • Ability to speak, understand, and communicate in English

  • Must live within 10km of Dorandia, Gauteng

  • Clear criminal record


Preferred Experience and Attributes

Though not mandatory, the following preferences will strengthen your application:

  • Prior experience as a cashier, team member, front-of-house assistant, or crew member

  • Female candidates are encouraged to apply (based on workforce balancing needs)

  • Candidates between the ages of 20 and 35

  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems or previous retail exposure
