Brights Hardware is inviting applications for a Cashier – Frontline Department to join its Plattekloof branch on a permanent basis in the Western Cape. This associate-level role is ideal for a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual with prior cashiering experience in a retail environment.

The position is central to ensuring efficient point-of-sale operations, accurate cash handling, and excellent customer service, all of which contribute directly to customer satisfaction, repeat business, and the ongoing growth of the store.


About the Role

The Cashier – Frontline Department is responsible for delivering a smooth and efficient checkout experience for customers. This includes accurately processing sales, following cash register and cash-up procedures, handling payments securely, and maintaining vigilance to protect company assets.

The role requires strong numerical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work calmly and professionally in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining high service standards.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Frontline Interaction

The successful candidate will greet customers as they enter the store, provide friendly and professional service at the point of sale, and ensure that every customer interaction reflects positively on the Brights Hardware brand.


Cash Handling and Register Operations

Responsibilities include accurately ringing up all sales, checking cash received, processing EFT payments, issuing gift cards, handling customer reward cards, and cashing in points. Strict adherence to cash register and cash-up procedures is essential.


Cash Control and Security Awareness

The role requires handing over cash drops to superiors for security purposes, performing daily cash-ups, and remaining alert to suspicious behaviour to help minimise losses and protect store assets.


Merchandise and Promotional Awareness

The cashier must remain aware of all promotional products on sale to ensure correct pricing and to support promotional activities during customer transactions.


Housekeeping and Stock Support

Duties include maintaining a clean and organised work area, participating in perpetual stock takes, packing purchased items neatly into shopping bags, and performing any additional tasks delegated by management.


Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this role must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric or equivalent qualification

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a similar cashier or frontline retail role

  • Completion of Brights Induction (Service Excellence)

  • Clear credit record

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Good numerical skills and accuracy

  • Awareness and vigilance in a retail environment

  • Ability to handle pressure during busy trading periods

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision

  • Exceptional organisational skills and high attention to detail

  • Willingness to work flexible hours and public holidays as required by the business
