Heavy Vehicle Driver Opportunity at Brights Hardware – Brackenfell
Brights Hardware is recruiting a skilled and responsible Driver Code 14 – Drive Thru Yard to join its Brackengate (Brackenfell) operation on a permanent basis in the Western Cape. This associate-level role is suited to an experienced Code 14 driver with strong customer service skills, solid route planning ability, and a commitment to safe vehicle and crane operation.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, punctual, and safe delivery of goods while maintaining excellent customer service standards and supporting efficient yard and branch operations.
About the Role
The Driver Code 14 – Drive Thru Yard is responsible for transporting goods between branches and to customers, ensuring that all stock is delivered in excellent condition and in line with company documentation and safety requirements. The role includes daily vehicle inspections, trip administration, coordination with truck assistants, and effective communication with supervisors and receiving branches.
In addition, the role includes crane operation responsibilities, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service and Professional Conduct
The successful candidate will provide consistent, professional customer service when dealing with customers, branch staff, and internal teams, contributing to customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Driving, Deliveries, and Route Planning
Responsibilities include planning and following the most efficient delivery routes, ensuring punctual arrivals, and reporting any delays to the Supervisor. All stock must be delivered accurately and in excellent condition.
Trip Sheets, Documentation, and Reporting
The role requires completing daily trip sheets, recording opening and closing kilometres, departure and arrival times, and ensuring that all outgoing stock has the correct documentation before loading. Transfer documents must be recorded in the logbook and signed by the receiving branch.
Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance Reporting
The driver must complete daily pre-trip inspections to ensure roadworthiness, report defects to the Supervisor using vehicle repair reports, and ensure the delivery vehicle is kept in good condition.
Crane Operation Duties
The role includes safely operating the crane to lift and move heavy loads, inspecting the crane before use, assisting with load positioning, and performing daily checks and minor maintenance on crane equipment in line with safety standards.
Operational Support and Compliance
Additional duties include ensuring truck assistants remain with the vehicle at all times, participating in perpetual stocktakes, handing in weekly evaluation reports, and performing any reasonable work-related tasks delegated by management.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this role must meet the following requirements:

Matric or equivalent qualification
Candidates without Matric will be considered if they hold a valid licence and have at least 3 years’ driving experience -
Minimum 3 years’ driving experience

Code 14 Driver’s Licence

Valid PDP (Goods and Passengers)

Willingness to operate a crane

Proven crane operation experience (or willingness to obtain certification)

Crane Operation Certification

Ability to handle pressure and meet delivery deadlines
