Stock Control and Operations Opportunity at Empact Group – Food Solutions
Empact Group is currently recruiting an experienced Storeman to join its Food Solutions division on a permanent basis in Bloemfontein, Free State. This associate-level operations role is suited to a disciplined and detail-oriented professional with solid stock control experience, strong numerical ability, and the confidence to supervise store operations within a food or hospitality environment.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate stock administration, supplier coordination, compliance with food safety standards, and effective support of catering and operational teams.
About the Role
The Storeman is responsible for administering and controlling all stock-related activities within the stores, including ordering, receiving, issuing, storage, and supervision of store associates. The role requires close collaboration with suppliers, internal departments, and the Project or Assistant Catering Manager to ensure that stock levels, quality, and costs are managed in line with operational budgets and standards.
This position is hands-on and operational, requiring the ability to work independently, manage pressure during peak service times, and maintain strict hygiene, safety, and stock control procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Ordering and Supplier Liaison
The successful candidate will place stock orders upon approval from the Project or Assistant Catering Manager and liaise directly with suppliers. This includes ensuring that pricing and quantities align with approved order sheets and supplier invoices.
Stock Receiving and Quality Control
Responsibilities include receiving all stock from suppliers, checking goods for quality, correct labelling, and compliance with data sheets. All incoming stock must be verified to ensure accuracy and adherence to food safety and quality standards.
Issuing and Stock Distribution
The Storeman will issue stock and groceries to all relevant departments, accurately weigh food products issued for production, and ensure that stock movement is properly recorded and controlled.
Stock Level and Budget Control
The role requires managing minimum and maximum stock levels in line with budget requirements, maintaining appropriate stock ratios, and implementing strict controls in the storeroom, fridge, and freezer areas to prevent losses and wastage.
Stocktakes and Record Keeping
The successful candidate will assist with weekly and monthly stocktakes and ensure that all records, including Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) documentation, are completed accurately and timeously.
Supervision and Store Management
Responsibilities include supervising the storeroom, fridge, and freezer areas, ensuring they are locked, clean, and organised at all times. The Storeman will also supervise store associates and ensure stock is packed away correctly after each mealtime service.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene Compliance
The role requires ensuring strict hygiene standards, conducting quality checks on all food products, maintaining clean storage areas, and complying fully with HSE requirements and company procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

Minimum 4 years’ work experience in a storeman or stock control role

Matric qualification (Logistics qualification advantageous)

Experience in a hospitality or food environment (preferred but not essential)

Valid driver’s license

Systems and supervisory experience (advantageous)
