Position Overview

Brights Hardware is recruiting four (4) General Assistants for the Building Department at its Richmond Park branch. This permanent, entry-level role is essential to ensuring smooth yard operations, excellent customer service, and accurate handling of building materials.

The General Assistant plays a hands-on role in loading customer vehicles, maintaining stock accuracy, supporting housekeeping standards, and assisting customers with product-related queries. Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to deliver consistent and exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers, including delivery and transfer drivers.

By ensuring accurate loading, proper stock handling, and a clean working environment, the General Assistant supports efficient yard operations, reduces stock losses, and contributes to customer satisfaction, repeat business, and increased sales.

Key Responsibilities

Yard and Stock Operations

Load customer vehicles, delivery trucks, and transfer trucks promptly and accurately
Ensure stock is correctly stacked, stored, and counted
Assist with pulling and preparing stock for internal transfers
Participate in perpetual stock takes
Report stock shortages and stock breakages timeously

Housekeeping and Safety

Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the yard and work areas
Perform sweeping and general cleaning duties
Uphold good housekeeping standards at all times
Ensure work areas remain safe and organised

Customer Service Support

Assist customers with friendly, professional service
Provide basic product knowledge and guidance when required
Bag stone and sand according to customer requirements
Ensure customers receive accurate and efficient service

General Duties

Perform work-related tasks as delegated by supervisors
Support the team to ensure smooth daily operations
Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Matric
or
Three (3) completed Intercept courses equating to a total of 120 credits

Experience

Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a similar role

Additional Requirements

Completion of Brights Induction (Service Excellence)
Ability to deliver excellent customer service
Numerical ability to count stock accurately
Strong verbal communication skills
Physically fit with good stamina
Ability to work under pressure
Disciplined, motivated, and reliable
Able to work independently and as part of a team
