Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reputable Pharmacist to join the Norwood store on a permanent basis. This role is suited to an entry-level or early-career pharmacist who is committed to delivering high standards of pharmaceutical care in a busy retail pharmacy environment.
The Pharmacist will take full responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant pharmaceutical care. The role requires accountability for dispensing accuracy, patient counselling, compliance with regulatory requirements, and adherence to Dis-Chem’s professional and operational standards.

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Pharmacist is to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care by evaluating, dispensing, and managing medicines in line with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
The role focuses on patient safety, compliance with the South African Pharmacy Council requirements, and the consistent delivery of professional healthcare services in a retail pharmacy setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provision of Pharmaceutical Care
Evaluate patients’ medicine-related needs by assessing indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy
Dispense medicines and scheduled substances on valid prescriptions issued by authorised prescribers
Sign off and check all prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, accepting accountability in line with GPP requirements
Provide accurate information and advice regarding the correct use of medicines
Determine patient compliance with prescribed therapy and conduct follow-ups where required
Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy in accordance with legislation
Dispensing, Manufacturing and Compliance
Compound, manipulate, prepare, package, or supervise the preparation of medicines and scheduled substances
Manufacture medicines or scheduled substances, or supervise such activities where applicable
Manage the purchasing, storage, possession, distribution, supply, and sale of medicines and scheduled substances
Ensure compliance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act, including applications for medicine registration where required
Promote public health through professional pharmaceutical practice
Patient Interaction and Customer Care
Accurately interpret prescriptions and act professionally within legal and ethical requirements
Capture prescription details accurately and verify patient information on pharmacy systems
Ensure correct picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
Provide clear dosage instructions and highlight important drug interactions
Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop
Explain medical aid costs and processes clearly to patients
Follow through on commitments made to customers
Administration and Stock Control
Process documentation for accurate medical aid claims submission
Correct rejected medical aid scripts and ensure authorisation for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication
Maintain and manage customer profiles on the system, including merging profiles where required
Assist the Dispensary Manager with administrative functions and reporting
Report low, out-of-stock, and stock errors timeously
Participate in bi-annual stock takes
Exercise control over stock, cash, and pharmacy assets
Operational Support and Compliance
Ensure housekeeping standards meet Dis-Chem requirements
Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures
Comply with health and safety rules and regulations
Maintain professional appearance in line with Dis-Chem uniform standards
Minimum Requirements
Essential
Grade 12 / Matric
BPharm or equivalent qualification
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Minimum 2–3 years’ pharmaceutical experience
2–3 years retail pharmacy experience (Student or Intern)
Computer literacy, including MS Office
Advantageous
Relevant retail or FMCG experience
Third additional language
SAP experience
E-scripting experience
Registered tutor status
Unisolv system experience
