Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting a Post-Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Soshanguve Crossing store. This permanent entry-level role focuses on delivering professional pharmaceutical care by supporting the responsible pharmacist and ensuring that all patient medicine-related needs are met accurately, ethically, and in accordance with SAPC regulations.

The role is ideal for a detail-oriented pharmacy professional seeking stable employment and long-term career growth within a reputable retail pharmacy group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
  • Support the compounding, preparation, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines
  • Assist with the manufacturing and re-packaging of medicines in line with approved SOPs
  • Accurately interpret prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist
  • Capture and verify prescription and patient details on pharmacy systems
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding correct medicine usage
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and controlling pharmacy stock (Schedules 1–6)
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages or discrepancies
  • Process medical aid claims and correct rejected scripts
  • Support authorisation of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Maintain and update customer profiles and ensure correct data merging
  • Assist with dispensary stock takes and stock rotation (FEFO)
  • Provide professional advice on self-medication and front-shop products
  • Promote health awareness and patient education
  • Exercise stock, cash, and asset control within the dispensary

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working on Unisolv
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Strong numerical and accuracy skills
  • Proficiency in English and at least one additional language
  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Advantageous Skills & Experience

  • Retail or FMCG pharmacy experience
  • Third additional language
  • Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting
  • Experience in complementary medicine, drug counselling, and family planning
