Position Overview: Casual Frontshop Assistant
The Casual Frontshop Assistant will be responsible for:
- Maintaining merchandising standards
- Supporting customer service at point of sale
- Ensuring accurate cash handling
- Assisting with stock control and replenishment
This role plays a key part in ensuring smooth frontshop operations while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities
Merchandising & Stock Control
- Ensure full product ranges are neatly presented on shelves
- Monitor sell-by dates and remove expired stock
- Restock merchandise to maximise sales
- Follow up on customer out-of-stock queries
- Ensure accurate pricing and report discrepancies
- Maintain organised storeroom standards
- Assist with stocktaking and rotation procedures
- Identify and report damaged or expired stock
Point of Sale & Cash Handling
- Process payments (cash, cards, vouchers, coupons)
- Handle merchandise exchanges when authorised
- Process loyalty cards and partner transactions
- Ensure accurate cash flow at all times
- Place cash in drop safe according to SOP
- Obtain approval for line voids and price changes
Customer Service Excellence
- Provide friendly, professional assistance
- Address customer queries promptly
- Report compliments and complaints to management
- Maintain customer turnover benchmarks
Operational & Compliance Duties
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and SOPs
- Follow Health & Safety regulations
- Maintain professional appearance and uniform standards
- Report suspicious behaviour
- Assist with loading/offloading stock
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0–6 months retail work experience
- South African citizen
- Clear criminal record (MIE check)
- Clear credit record
- Ability to work retail hours
Advantageous
- 1 year retail experience
- Certification in Retail Business Management
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- SAP knowledge
- Driver’s license and reliable transport
