The Lynnwood Lane store in Pretoria is currently offering a Dispensary Support opportunity designed to develop learners into qualified Basic Pharmacist Assistants.
Position Overview
This role is a structured learning opportunity aimed at candidates who wish to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course and register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
Successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support until they achieve SAPC registration. Permanent employment may be offered once qualification and registration requirements are met.
The programme equips learners with knowledge and practical skills across key areas of pharmaceutical dispensing, stock control, patient service, and pharmacy operations.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
- Pure Mathematics (minimum 50%)
- Life Science and/or Physical Science
- Overall average of at least 50%
Job Responsibilities
Dispensary Support staff must successfully complete a proficiency test that allows them to apply for SAPC registration as a Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, duties include:
Dispensing & Pharmaceutical Support
- Sale of Schedule 1 medicines and substances
- Assist with compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Accurately interpret prescriptions within legal requirements
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
- Be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions
- Ensure all medication is checked and signed off by a pharmacist
Stock Control & Merchandising
- Assist with unpacking and merchandising of dispensary stock
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of dispensary and OTC shelves
- Monitor expiry dates and manage stock for Schedule 1–5 medicines
- Report low or out-of-stock items to the Dispensary Manager
- Receive dispensary stock in line with company SOPs
Patient & Customer Service
- Follow up on script tracking reports
- Assist with patient service calls and call centre scripts
- Support scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication
- Provide health-related information to promote patient wellness
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
