The New Market store in Alberton is currently seeking a qualified and reputable Pharmacist to join its professional healthcare team.
Position Overview
The Pharmacist will take responsibility for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care by identifying, evaluating, and managing patients’ medicine-related needs. This includes ensuring the safe, effective, and responsible use of medication while adhering to regulatory standards set by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
The role requires strong clinical knowledge, retail pharmacy experience, leadership capability, and commitment to patient service excellence.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric
- BPharm or equivalent qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council
- Minimum 2–3 years’ pharmaceutical experience
- 2–3 years retail pharmacy experience (including Student/Intern experience)
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
Advantageous
- Retail / FMCG experience
- Third additional language
- SAP system experience
- E-scripting experience
- Registered Tutor status
- Unisolv experience
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Care
- Evaluate patients’ medicine-related needs (indication, safety, effectiveness)
- Dispense scheduled medicines as prescribed by authorised practitioners
- Check and sign off prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns in line with GPP requirements
- Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate
- Offer counselling and medication guidance to patients
- Monitor therapy compliance and follow up where necessary
- Promote public health initiatives
Dispensing & Clinical Oversight
- Accurately interpret prescriptions within SAPC legal framework
- Capture and verify patient details on the system
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, and labelling of medication
- Monitor drug interactions and correct dosing
- Provide clear instructions regarding medicine usage
- Stay updated on medical aid requirements and procedures
Medical Aid & Administration
- Process claims accurately and timeously
- Correct rejected scripts and manage authorisations
- Secure chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations
- Maintain accurate customer profiles and merge records when necessary
- Assist the Dispensary Manager with administration and compliance
Stock & Operational Management
- Monitor stock levels and report discrepancies
- Facilitate bi-annual stock takes
- Maintain stock, cash, and asset control
- Ensure compliance with legislative stock registers
- Uphold housekeeping standards according to company policies
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety regulations
