Position Overview

The Handyman at Oceans Mall is responsible for maintaining the mall’s roof, gutters, parking, and yard areas, as well as performing general maintenance tasks across the facility. This role ensures that exterior areas are safe, functional, and well-maintained, supporting operational efficiency and tenant satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance

  • Perform daily maintenance tasks across the mall
  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests and minor repairs
  • Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance needs
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas and tools

Roof and Gutter Maintenance

  • Inspect, clean, and maintain roofs and gutters
  • Repair minor roof defects, flashing, and related structures
  • Monitor major roof issues and report for contractor intervention
  • Ensure safe use of PPE and equipment

Parking and Yard Maintenance

  • Maintain parking areas (surface repairs, line marking, and upkeep)
  • Keep yard areas clean, organized, and safe
  • Report damage, hazards, or maintenance requirements

Preventative and Reactive Maintenance

  • Perform preventative maintenance according to schedule
  • Resolve maintenance issues promptly
  • Maintain accurate logs of work completed and parts used

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all occupational health and safety standards and mall protocols
  • Use PPE correctly and set up safety signage/barriers when necessary
  • Report hazards or unsafe conditions immediately

Teamwork and Communication

  • Collaborate with other handymen and the Operations team
  • Communicate task completion and maintenance needs to management
  • Assist new or temporary staff when required

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Safe, clean, and well-maintained roofs, gutters, parking, and yard areas
  • Timely and quality completion of maintenance tasks
  • Reduced reactive maintenance through preventative care
  • Positive feedback from tenants, management, and visitors

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of roof, gutter, and external area maintenance
  • Basic handyman and general maintenance skills
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Attention to detail, reliability, and accountability
  • Physical fitness for manual and elevated tasks
  • Good communication and teamwork

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in building maintenance, especially roofs, gutters, or external areas
  • Experience in commercial or retail facilities preferred
  • Understanding of health, safety, and compliance standards
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
