As part of its strategic transformation initiatives, Cell C is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to join its Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) and lead large-scale business and technology projects.


Position Overview

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of multiple large-scale projects valued at more than R15 million. This role focuses on ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic business objectives.

Working closely with business leaders, vendors, and cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will ensure that projects follow established governance frameworks, manage project risks, and drive successful implementation of commercial and IT initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Project and Programme Management

  • Define Project Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Deliver projects within approved scope, timeline, and budget
  • Coordinate programme components and manage relationships between multiple projects
  • Monitor and report on project status, milestones, and deliverables
  • Manage project interdependencies and provide strategic planning support to business units
  • Ensure compliance with the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) framework
  • Track contractual deliverables and maintain project documentation
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and escalation processes

Governance and Process Management

  • Assist Programme Managers in establishing project governance frameworks and operating models
  • Ensure projects comply with policies, processes, and best practices
  • Monitor performance against project baselines and recommend improvement strategies
  • Manage project change requests and control processes
  • Oversee project reporting and communicate progress to senior stakeholders

Vendor and Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with vendors, service providers, and technology partners
  • Ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled by external vendors
  • Act as the primary escalation point for project delays or delivery challenges
  • Coordinate communication between technical teams, business units, and project sponsors

Business Strategy and Continuous Improvement

  • Support the development and improvement of Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid project methodologies
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and project management innovations
  • Lead business transformation initiatives and strategic project prioritisation
  • Track benefits realisation for three months after project launch

Team Leadership and Mentorship

  • Lead and manage cross-functional project teams
  • Provide mentorship and professional development support to team members
  • Facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving within project teams
  • Ensure adherence to Cell C HR policies and procedures

Communication and Reporting

  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings and cross-functional project discussions
  • Deliver well-structured project presentations and reports
  • Communicate complex or sensitive information effectively to executives and stakeholders
  • Provide updates on project status, risks, and forecasts

Cost and Budget Management

  • Manage project budgets and capital expenditure requirements
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives and optimise project costs
  • Monitor project financial performance and report potential over or under spending
  • Make recommendations for budget adjustments when necessary

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in a related field
  • PMP or PRINCE2 Project Management Certification

Experience

  • 6–8 years’ experience in technical project management or technology-enabled business environments
  • Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in a middle management role
  • Experience managing matrix project teams and large-scale technology projects
